What is Old Hymns Become New All About?

In “Old Hymns Become New,” you’ll become re-acquainted with well-known hymns like Amazing Grace and There is a Fountain Filled with Blood, and learn some less-known hymns like I Love Thy Kingdom Lord and Jesus the Very Thought of Thee, but all with new melodies.

Five of these seven songs first appeared in John Newton’s Olney Hymns which he and William Cowper created for “the ordinary, working-class people” in the small town of Olney, England where Newton was pastor. They were first published in 1779.

Did you know that Newton originally wrote Amazing Grace to illustrate God’s grace at work in the past, present, and future with two verses for each. This new version combines those original six verses into three A-B verses making it easier for us to better understand the complete structure of this great hymn.
